Designing for Infiltration-- A Perspective.

This paper discusses the development of infiltration criteria to meet the stormwater management goals of recharge of baseflow, treatment of non-point source pollution, and protection of downstream stream channels. A water budget was created for the Brandywine River watershed (287 square mile) in southeastern Pennsylvania from long term rain and stream gage records. The relationship between stormwater management goals and volumetric infiltration requirements are explored using this watershed as an example. Volumetric infiltration re stormwater management goals are discussed in relation to this watershed budget. Once calibrated, the NRCS Soil Cover Complex method was useful in comparing the volumes of runoff needed to meet watershed goals. Partial funding was received through the Villanova Urban Stormwater Partnership for Dr. Travers time (Sponsor - PaDEP).
