Johnson’s stamped signature appeared below text, and was countersigned by Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton. Printed engraving of fierce eagle, centered top, with the phrase over it, "The President of the United States" with the motto, set among stars, 'E Pluribus Unum' Printed engravings of military weaponry, flags centered bottom on document. In upper left corner of document, perpendicular to text, in red pen a notation, "Recorded Volume 19, page 3, Adjutant General's Office, July 24, 1867. [signed] E.D. Townsend, Assistant Adjutant General." Directly below notation, a raised blue seal attached.
