BRITAIN PANICKED
Due to the censorship of reports from Lon-
don no news of the panic-stricken state of
the civilian population has come through.
On the contrary the American correspondents
have been allowed to print only the re-
leases of the English Press Censor which
paint a picture of an abnormal people who
da even take to the air-raid shelters
News to the contrary has just been received
here in a special message which was accom-
panied by a copy of the latest issue of the
LANCET, a British medical journal.
The report inthe medical journal, natu-
rally, is unbiased and was not subject to
censorship since it was intended. for cir-
culation only among a small group «of doc
tors in London, + eke
The article’ was written by two psychia-
trists, William Sargent and Zliot Slater.
They agree that the war from 1914 to 1913,
effects upon either the civilian
population or the active combatants, could
not be compared with the present conflict.
/— This ;-of-course, ean be understood because
never before did England have a war brought
to her own soil.
Dr.Sargent told of "ghostlike figures walk-
ing the streets and screaming at the sight
of German planes", of "widespread mentally
induced palsy and insomnia" "increasing
apathy to the value of humn ife", of "di-
minishing reasoning power" ,
Other doctors reported complaints of "terr-
ifying bad dreams, feelings of inner unrest,
hysterical fits and tendencies to be start-
led at the least noise, particularly at the
sound of airplanes",
Dr. Clifford Allen wrote of observing a
strange show of interest in animals and an
equal y strange lack of interest in human

Likewise an appeal for
donations for a hospital met with poor suc-
cess while a collection for crippled ani-
mals was rapidly over-subscribed,
Further notes by Dr. Allen dealt with the
great increase in immorality and insanity
since the beginning of the war.
We hope that we have done America a service
by presenting these truths about conditions
in present day England. Our readers are
intelligent enough to see through the Brit-
ish propaganda but these additional facts
will arm them to go forth with the truth
to their fellow Americans,
News of the death of Joseph McGarrity of
Philadelphia was received with profound re-
gret in every city and town in the United
States wherever the Clan na Gael is organ-
ised. After a lingering illness of many
weeks he passed quietly away on August 5th
leaving a beloved wife, eight children, and
thousands of friends to mourn his loss. His
death marks the end of one of the greatest
Irish patriots of our time, and the Clan na
Gael has lost its most powerful leader, We
of the Boston Gael especially
feel his loss.

IN ‘THE NAME OF THE
MOST HOLY TRINITY
GRAVE 1S _DESECRATED!
"In the name of the Most Holy Trinity"----
thus piously begins the terms of deValera's
"Constitution" of such short duration,
The mode of its interpretation by his
henchmen may well be judged from the signed
statement of Mrs. J. D'Arcy given below,
Tony D'Arcy, Soldier of the Republic, gave
up his life on hunger-strike for the prin-
ciples this "Constitution" professed to en-
join, Here is the sworn statement of his
young widow, mother of two small children
"On the day my husband, Tony D'Arcy, was
buried, “first ST all Gur tomecee re rcond:
ed by the military, We proceeded to the
graveyard which was surrounded by hundreds
of detectives: the police had taken over
the graveyard, and as my poor husband's re-
mains were being carried in, the police
surrounded the grave and would not allow
anybody in.
"Three times the coffin was almost knocked
to the ground andI myself
thrown into the grave. Any frie
tried to get near the graveside were baton-
ed. But for the kindness of the public my
two orphan children would have been killed,
only they were taken to the car for safety,
It would have been impossible to bury my
husband only the priest asked the police to
keep back until they bury the remains,"
(Signed) Mrs.Julia D'Arcy
NERVE WAR EXTENDED
The crumbling of English morale which shows
itself more and more every day is in large
part due to the advanced, bloodless type of
warfare which the present campaign of the
I.R.A. Expeditionary Force is following.
This phase of the war is carried out siml-
taneously with the original policy of de-
stroying all English resources, such as
power houses, food depots, etc.,when these
opearat
operations can be effected without a loss
of lives.
The result of the ringing of false air-raid
alarms, false "all-clear" signals, is vis-
ible in the distrust of these signals evi-
denced in many districts, Another nerve-
shattering procedure is the exploding of
magnesium flares during the black-outs....
On Sept. 11, the worst asacare of all came
when & parachute-raid signal was sent out
all over South-Eastern England, This par-
ticular signal is the tolling of Church
bells, and in this instance, motorcycle
messengers acurried far and wide to warn
the people of the "invasion",
Like the towns-people who heard the shep-
herd boy cry "Wolf!" too often, these numer-
ous "false alarms"
for them is the greatest, However, England
prefers it to the freedom of Ireland. Let
everyone bear in mind that England, if she
does not like the campaign of the I.R.A.y
can bring it to an end immediately-- by re-
moving her troops and her influence from
every inch of Irish soil }
NO TRIAL BY JURY
Sir John Maffey is exulting! the Military
Tribunal (which has replaced trial by jury
in Ireland) is gloating! the Free "State
"Government" has carried out "the writ of
the King". Ireland is now a little safer
for the Empire,
The reason forall this?--- two unselfish
soldiers of Ireland, Patrick McGrath and
Thomas Green, were murdered by the Free
State Government on September 6th,
Sir John Maffey is the new Governor-General
of the Irish Free State whose presence
there over the st year has resulted in an
intensified drive against any and all cit-
izens who would oppose the English domina-
tion of Ireland. His hand was visible in
the deaths John Me-
He is the
yower btehina-the-mititary-Tiibunal-who sen-
tenced these two soldiers of the I.R.A. to
die before a firing squad because they de-
manded the freedom of Ireland.
Out of love for their fellow countrymen----
even though some of those countrymen are
actually traitors to the Republic---the
Irish Republican Army has resisted numerous
provocations to war within Irish shores,
The I.R.A.has not struck at the Free State:
the I.R.A, has confined its operations to
England and English objectives. Despite
this the Free State has arrested, fined and
harrassed Republican men and women.
English recruiting is allowed--among other
ngs.
Ireland lost two valiant sons when Barnes
and McCormick were hanged. They would never
have been hanged but for the part played by
officials of the Free State Government. Yet
the I.R.A, didn't lift a finger against the
Free State.
Two soldiers of the I.R.A,died the horrible
death of hunger, and Father O'Hara, on the
witness stand and under oath, accused the
of deliberately murdering John
McNeela and Antony D'Arcy. And the I.R.A.
did nothing against the Free State.
An attempt to hang Tomas MacCurtain failed
because of the public anger.
Now two soldiers of freedom have been added
to the list of those who died for Ireland.
And still the I.R.A. refuses to be goaded
to Civil War.
One year ago, Sir John Laffey was sent from
London to carry out Lord Birkenhead's plans
for Ireland. He was sent there to try to
stir up Civil War. He is the new Governor
General of whom you never hear-- the power
behind the throne. In his capacity as Gov-
ernor-General he has insisted that the Free
State smash the growing Irish Republican
Ary.
When England couldn't do it, the Free State
ff
never will, Maffey knew that, but he was
to carry out the Birkenhead plan, The Birk-
hat of C:
that I was held ith
Irish_troops" and with "an economy o -
lish lives", The Birkenhead plan has failed
in 1940--failed despite Sir John Maffey and
his Free State Government, failed because
the I.R.A. refuses to allow England to re-
peat 1922,
