Seated on a richly
upholstered sofa,
dressed in a gorge-
ous evening gown,
she did not need the
jewels on her hands
and at her throat to bring the focus of
all eyes upon her.
And Helen Hayden's smile was calcu-

director, who was trying to remain calm
while he attempted to make several “ex-
tra" men and women understand just
what they should do in the scene of
which a picture was about to be taken.
"You see that wonderful gem at Miss
Hayden's throat," the director was say-
ing to them. “Well, that gem is sup-

The superintendent oi’ the plant,
standing back oi the camera with a
friend. spoke in a whisper. "And it is
worth a fortune, too," he said.

The “set" was a handsomely-furnish
ed room in a mansion where a ball was
supposedly being given by Miss Hay-
den's mother‘. .The fact that Just be-
yond the camera's vision the exterior of
a prison cell was visible, ready to re
ceive the villain in another picture that
was to be taken, was not supposed to
affect the participants in this scene.
And it did not. They" were thinking,
rather, most of them, whether they
would get ihru with the ball scenes
