It was again night for many in the city of

thoroughfare, was alive with gaudy equi-
pages, whose occupants had thronged the (‘on-

The music poured forth meiodiously from
the almost packed interior, and there were
hundreds of couples participating at the mo-
ment in the delicious enjoyment of a waltz.

Maskers all were tin-so festive spirits; In
many a garb of novelty, with identity con-
cealed beneath the wally colored masks, they
moved and mingle hither and thither, ex-
changing ringing badinage and ' iilling the

that seemed to glide with ubiquitous enchant-
rnent ever where, attracting the attention of

Goddess of Morning, was no loss destined to
