OM D501 .G415 1916 Glanville wrote his younger brother, Waldo, on the drawing "Waldo from Arthur 6-5-17  Our Dug-Out" He noted "The Germans hold the wood on the ridge. N.B. our garden seat at entrance to Dug-Out!"

Dug-out were used as shelter near trench lines. Glanville's pencil drawing of steep dugout displayed with sandbags as walls, cubby hole and door, ladders angled, wood pathways, some brushwood as cover.
