Opera House Sunday Evening, While
WSTTOR ADDRESSES BOTH MEETINGS,
JAMES A, FLAHERTY 15 CHAIRMAN
While more than four thousand persons crowded the
Metropolitan Opera Hotise from the stage to the topmost
part of the house, last Sunday evening,
, several thousand
others, in the street outside, clamored for admission to
hear Donal O'Callaghan, Lord Mayor of Cork, voice the
Irish Republic's plea for recognition.
Those who were
shut out were appeased when tlie Lord Mayor came out,
after finishing his address inside the opera house. and ad-
dressed the overflow meeting. *
James A. Flaherty, Supreme Grand Knight of the
i- Knights of Columbus, presided at the meeting inside. He
was introduced by Michael Francis Doyle. Other speak-
ers were Col. Edward J. Meehan, J. L. Fawsitt, Consul
General of the Irish Republic to the U. S., and Right Rev.
William Kieran, rector of St. Patrick's.
Resolutions read by Francis S. Clark, State Secre-
tary of the American Association for the Recognition of
the Trish Republic, demanded the recall of American
loans to England.
