UNITED TRADES’ ASSOCIATION
APTAIN KNOX AND THE PRINTERS.
At a Public Mesting called by advertisement, on Saturday Even-
ing last, vnd held in the Theatre of the Mechanics’ Institute, Lower
Abbey-street, Dublin, “to refute the Gross Charges preferred
against the Printers of the City by Captain Knox, iu a Letter ad-
dressed to the President of the Grocers and Vintners’ Society,”
Mr. JOUN M'CORRY in the Chair,
‘The following Resolutions were unanimously adooted :—
Proposed by Mr. S. Bolger; seconded by Mr. G. Barber, and
Resolved—That Captain Knox, by his insidious attempts, for
selfish purposes, to upset a society upwards of forty years in exis-
tence, by collecting together by incorrect representations a number
of young men from every available quarter, with the avowed object
of destroying the usages on morning newspapers, deserves general
reprehension at the hands of all goo
osed by Mr. J. Kee, egan 5 seconded by Mr. E. C. Ferris,
Resolyed—That-the attack made by Captain Knox on the cha-
racter of the Regular Printers of Dublin being unwarranted and
unjustifiable, we beg to record our entire disapproval of such pro-
ceedings by the proprietor of the Jrisk Times, and we pledge our-
selves not to cease our exertions until we obtain full and complete
reparation for the slanderous imputations on this respectable section
of our fellow-citizens.
Proposed by Mr. P. J. Fogarty; second by Mr. Cuttle, and
Resolved—That having taken into consideration a!l the circum-
stances connected with the lock-out of the Printers by Captain
Knok, we call on our fellow-citizens to sustain them until the pro-
prietor of the Jrish Times places his office on the same footing, as
regards the Printers, with the other morning newspapers of the city.
Proposed by Mr. Kearney, seconded by Mr. T. Leech, and
Resolved—That Captain Knox, in his letter to the’ Grocers’ and
Vintners’ Society, having, cither by himself or his co-operators,
wholly failed to substantiate any of the grave charges therein con-
‘ ined, we characterise said letter as an insult to the common sense
the Vintners, a3 well as of all concerned in the matter, and only
worthy to emanate from parties blind to every sense of justice and
fair play.
Proposed by Mr. W. Barrett ; seconded by Mr. Drummond, and
Resolved—That the special thanks of this meeting are due, and
hereby tendered, to the Licensed Grocers and Vintners’ Society of
this City, who, while successfully vindicating their body from'the
unjust charges preferred by Captain Knox's so-called Typographical
Association, in a document partly written by the Captain himself,
fully exculpated the Regular Printers from the grave charges im-
pute
Po roposed. by Mr. S. Bolger ; seconded by Mr, T. Cuddy, and
Resolved—that the foregoing resolutions be published “in the
Freeman's Journal, Daily Express, Morning News, and Saunders’
News-Letter.
M'CORRY, Chairman.
Mr. M'Corry having vacated the’ ‘hair Mr. Shanley was called
thereto.
Proposed by Mr. Keegan ; 3, seconded by Mr. Barrett, and
Ttesolved—That the best thanks of this meeting be given to Mr.
M‘Corry for his praiseworthy conduct in the chai
