Monsignor Bedini, the Pope's Nniicia, has written a long letter
from London to Archbishop Purcell of Baltimore, in which be de-
nounces iii no measured terms the Germans, Italians and Ameri-
cans, who assailed him during his stay in this country for his po-
litical course on civil niler of Bologna. He even speaks of: con-
spiracy against his life, when the sum total oi the violence medi-
Douglas is executed in this way every day for a very meritorious

seem to trouble him. It is evident Badini knows not the American
ople, nor can he appreciate the genius of their institutions, in
which out-spoken public opinion, and sometimes acts strongly ex-
prsssingthat opinion,yetnot attended with violaice, are substituted

trated the acts attributed to him, surely the hanging, decapitation,
even burning of his elligy, would be but a very temperate ex-
pression of indignation at his execution. not of eiiigies, but of
living men, and these, too, good patriots. The Nuncio, however,

Tb majority of the city papers in stating the immigration to
this pr: for the month of March, set down the number of person-
oges under the head of“ British " as 14,334, and Ireland and the
Irish are totally omitted from the enumeration. This.has been
the practice for some time past, whether from design or ignorance
we cannot say. It is certainly very absurd, as England ranks far
below Ireland in the numbers she sends to this country. Instead
of 14,334 for the last month, she has only conlrhuled 431.
The following is a correct statement :,
During the month of March there arrived from foruiwn countries
3.758 emigrants. They are classified as follows: Ireland, 1,055 ;
Gennany, 1,44 ,. England, 431 ; Scotland, 102; VVales 91;
ance, 202; pain, 49; Switzerland, 334; Italy, 22; Belgium,
14; “West Indies, I ; South America, 2; Sicily 3; Citizens, 2,537.
Total, aliens and citizens, 6,595 ; emigrants, 3,758. Decrease tlii

arrived from Switzerland as from Englandf and now the emigrat-

was also the case for the last two years. Formerly the emigrat-
tion from Ireland far exceeded that from Gennauy. The follow-
