IRISH CATHOLIC BENEVOLENT UNION
ARGHDIOGESE ~ OF ~ PHILADELPHIA,
HEADQUARTERS OF THE ‘SCOMMITTEE ON SUCIETIES’”’
To...... Late ee eee eee ence ee wee eet eeeees 401 DREXEL BUILDING.
Pres. Of 6. cee cece cece e eee eeee I, C. B. U. Society.
Dear Sir & Brother ;—The undersigned have bzen elected as the
“‘Comnittee on Societies’? for the ensuing Year by. the Archdiocesan
Union of the I, C. B. U. Societies of Puailidelphia.,
The duties of this Committee as laid down in the Union Consti-
tution are: ‘‘the visiting of societies already organiz:d aid endeavoring
to enkindle therein renewed energy in the cause of Catholic benevo-
lence and also in assisting in the formation of new societies where the
same may be practicable.’’
—--..The first question that presents itself to us is: in what localities can
our Committee form new societies or where are public rallies needed ?
The answer to this question can best be given by the persons to
whom this circular is addressed. ;
THAT some societies need stirring up, THAT there should be one or
more of our societies in every parish and rHar not more than one-
tenth of the eligible Catholics, who would be benefited by membership
in our organization, are enrolled therein, are self evident facts that no
one will deny.
If the officers of the different societies will co-operate with this
Committee in getting up rallies in their respective localities and in
the organiztiun of new societies and also in keeping the Committee
posted as to any new field for I. C. B. U work, we feel confident
that Philadelphia societies will show a very large increase in member-
ship at the end of the year,
Trusting you will do your share of good work.
We REMAIN FRATERNALLY,
{ THOMAS McFARLAND, Chairman,

at the next stated meeting of your society, to the end that the mem-
bers may be made aware of the doings and purposes of the Local
Union, and that suggestions may be received having in view the
furtherance of the objects above set forth.
