MEN of MALVERBN1
JUNE, 1938
SACRED HEART PILGRIMAGE
The new and heautiful Shrine of
the Sacred Heart will be the mecca
for a pilgrimage in honor of the
Sacred Heart on Sunday evening,
June 19tl1.
Mr. J. Henry Hofmann, of Read-
ing, is arranging the details and ex-
pects to have a cavalcade of cars
from his home town which will trans-
port more than 200 men, women and
children.
This will he a splendid opportu-
nity to introduce the members of
your family to the heauties of Mal-
vern, or to show your friends and
acquaintances the reason you make
an annual retreat at St. ,loseph’s-in-
the-Hills.
According to the schedule so far
arranged, the plans call for assem-
hling at the retreat grounds at 6
o’cloek. Following this there will he
the veneration of a First Class Relic
of St. Margaret Mary, and, as the
twilight fades into the night, Solemn
Benediction of the Most Blessed Sac-
rament.
Never have the grounds been so
heautiful nor the surrounding wood-
land so inviting. Indeed, many who
visit the Retreat House only in the
early spring, late fall or winter, will
have a new concept of the attractive-
ness that is known to summer visi-
tors.
June is the month devoted to the
Sacred Heart. A splendid opportu-
nity is here offered Men of Malvern
to pay homage to Him. Also a fine
occasion to introduce that prospect
you have had in mind for your next
retreat. Bring him and his family
and spread the news that the League
is host to all who care to avail them-
selves of this opportunity for grace
and recreation.
Rememher the ohjectedevotion to
the Sacred Heart-the time-June
19th.
HYMN TO ST. JOSEPH OF MALVERN
This hymn, dedicated to the
Patron of Malvern, was composed by
Dr. Lawrence M. CodorisAssociate
Captain of the Mid May Group, and
was sung for the first time on the
Mid May Retreat of this year. Dr.
Codori also composed the musice
and will be happy to furnish the
composition to any of the Retreat
Captains for use on their Retreat.
St. Joseph, dear patron, we pray thee ahidc
Within these glad hearts that salute thee
with pride.
We ask of thee solace, to follow the way
That hrings us the closer to Jesus each day.
Protector of Mary, pray God that I’ll he
As kindly to others as He is to me.
Bestow on me courage, assistance divine,
Thy faith, dear St. Joseph, may ever he
mine.
True symbol of manhood, our strength and
o11r might,
As staunch men of Malvern, we walk with
thy light.
Lead each to the Cross, where his sins he
may yield,
While life’s aspect changes and trouhlcs are
healed.
-LAWRENCE M. coooru.
