ATTENTION, STUDENTS
You are now reading the fourth and final
Summer Bulletin of The Owl. Through the
medium of The Owl an attempt has been
made to keep you in touch with what. has
been going on at Villanova during the Sum-
mer months. You have also been able to
. read items about the whereabouts or the do-
{ ings of your schoolmates. Furthermore each
and every Engineering Student on the roster
of students, as well as some fifty-odd new
men, whose applications had been accepted
up to August seventh, have received copies
of the Summer editions of The Owl. And
mark you! there were many students last
year who never subscribed a penny to the
upkeep of The Owl. Neverthelesss The Owl
was sent regularly to ALL Student Engi-
i neers without exception.
: We have no hesitation in saying that no
} . other group of students at Villanova receives
: service comparable to this. In addition,
when you return, you will receive a copy of
the newly published Directory of Villanova
~ Sy Engineers. And, we might add that no
a other school at Villanova presents its stu-
tare dents with copies of an up-to-date directory
‘Hee of graduates. Ali this involves considerable
work on the part of a few and some finan-
cial outlay on the part of many.
By a policy of the strictest economy in
publication and overhead expenses, and
aided by volunteer workers, The Owl brings
to a successful close its Sixth year, without
} having raised the subscription rate above
}: , one dollar. This was the subscription for
the original four page mimeograph publica-
tion. With the full co-operation of both
students and alumni we hope to continue this
subscription rate. We appeal, therefore, to
all Student Engineers to back their publica-
tion to at least the extent of $1.00 and to do
that NOW.
Why not send in your dollar now? If you
a wait until you return, the hustle and bustle
Ss of the opening days of college may lead you
V foe oS to plead forgetfulness. Then again, a dollar
‘ i seems so much more at school than it does
at home. So by all means make sure of your
Support by sending in your subscription

ENGINEERING WORK
We have heard with genuine regret that
John J. Sweeney, "12, for
ber to resume teaching at Villanova.
During the past year “Prof.”
was on leave of absence, employed on con-
struction work in the neighborhood of Phila-
delphia. “Prof.” has now decided, for the
present at least, to continue as a member of
the firm of Carl R. Camp, Inc., of Philadel-
phia. The lure of the construction game
and the press of work being carried on by
this company have combined to deprive
Villanova of the services of an efficient, con-
sciencious and well-liked professor. The
Owl wishes “Prof.” Sweeney continued suc-
cess in all future undertakings.
ALTERATIONS IN ALUMNI HALL
With the addition of the new Commerce
and Finance building the use of classrooms
in Alumni Hall will be abandoned. Altera-
tions which will convert these former class
rooms into student rooms, are now nearly
completed. In this way the dormitory ca-
pacity of Alumni Hall will have been in-
creased by the addition of eighteen new
rooms.
CONSTRUCTION NOTES
Comparatively little concrete is going into
the construction of the new Gym. As a con-
sequence ‘it is hardly worth while to set up
a concrete mixing plant, so the concrete for
the footings was brought in by trucks hav-
ing revolving drums to mix it in transit.
On August 5th, work was held up on the
new Gym, pending the arrival of the struc-
tural steel. All the preliminary work that
could be done had been completed. The
Wark Company found it necessary to
temporarily lay off most of the men.
The new Gym will by no means have a
squat appearance. On the side nearest the
stadium it will appear fully four stories
