NAVY TEAM WINS
FROM VILLANOVA
Middies Quickly Overcome Opponents’
Lead and Triumph by Score of 30
to 6
ANNAPOLIS, Md., Nov. 7.—The
Naval Academy football team showed its
mettle this afternoon by piling up 36
points on the Villanova team after the
visitors had made the first score of the
game, a touchdown, made after two min-
utes of play by Barry, who intercepted
a forward pass on his 15-yard line and
ran 85 yards for a touchdown. Nothing
daunted, the Midshipmen caught up in
the same half by scoring two field goals,
a touchdown and goal, and in the second
half piled up 16 additional points, made
up of two touchdowns and goals and
another field goal, winning by a score of
30 to 6.
All of the field goals were kicked from
placement, two from the regular_ferma-
tion and one after a fair catch. The first
one was kicked by Lange, but Captain
Northcroft had two other chances, but
missed by close margins both times,
The game was full of spectacular fea-
tures besides the 85-yard run by Barry.
One run of Dalton’s, which ended in a
touchdown, was for 50 yards, and runs
little short of that by the Midshipmen
were frequent. Slingluff’s touchdown fol-
lowed some remarkable playing. He
blocked one kick cleanly when Villanova
held the ball on its own 20-yard line, but
the ball was recovered by the visitors
on their 5-yard line. On the next play,
Slingluff again blocked the ball, but this
time fell behind on the line and scored a
touchdown, .
The visitors had a variety of compli-
cated passes and kicks, which were in-
tended to give their own players a chance
to recover the ball, but most of them
went astray. Navy players almost always
recovered on the kicks and in several
cases they led to good runs. Dalton’s
long run for a touchdown was after one
of the visitors’ short kicks,
The Navy showed a powerful attack
and its force was not lessened after
nearly every regular was replaced by a
substitute. Dalton kept up his long punts
and placed them with great accuracy,
while the visitors lacked a man who could
get off kicks of good length.
The teams lined up as follows:
