direction of Riga as far as Bersemuende.

German troops were withdrawn in the vicinity
of Czartorysk before superior enemy forces.

Serbia: Northern Front
Schabatz was occupied by Austro-Hungarian
troops. The Serbian Ralja position was
captured; v. Callwitz's army made further
progress southward.
Serbia: Northeastern Front
A Serbian counter-attack east of Negotin
was repulsed; the Bulgarians reached the
lzajezar-Knjazevac road in the Timok Val-
ey.
Serbia: Southeastern Front
Advancing further, the Bulgarians occupied
Kumanovo and Veles. thus gaining a footing
in the Vardar Valley; the important Salon-
ica-Uskub railroad was captured and de-
stroyed.

On October 21, The Baltic

‘enemy craft. was shelled by a German tor-
pedo-boat off the south coast of Sweden.
