An English destroyer was sunk at the mouth
of the Dardanelles: the French cruiser
"Jeanne d'Arc" was damaged. Detachment:
continued to be landed on the Peninsula. but
Turkish attacks prevented the enemy from
gaining further ground on the narrow strip
originally occupied by them.
German Southwest Africa
At a point near Gibeon. on the railway be-
tween Keetmanshoop and Karibib. a German
detachment retreating northward at night en-
countered an English column advancing from
the west. After violent fighting the enemy
was driven back. In the morning. as a result
of an attack by the combined English forces,
the Germans lost over 200 prisoners. but
were able to retreat toward Windhuk in good
or er.
Western Front:
On 29, French Coast, Yser Canal
German heavy artillery successfully shelled
Dunkirk from a distance of 35 kilometers.-
An attack by Turkos and Zouaves. north of
Ypres, broke down under German fire.
The Argonne
North of the Four de Paris the Germans
stormed an enemy position.
Verdun
After the Germans had gained fur-
ther successes near Les Eparges, a.
French counter-attack was repulsed.

In prisoners alone the enemy lost
over 4,000 since April 24.
Meme-Moaellc
The French sustained heavy losses during a
fruitless drive north of Flirey.
Eastern Front: Russia
The explosion of the powder works at Ochta,
near St. Petersburg, causing the death of a
large number of workmen. greatly curtailed
the output of Russian munitions.
Courland
The German Baltic fleet shelled Libau.
Lithuania
German troops, advancing on a wide
front, reached the railway line be-
tween Libau and Diinaburg. The‘
left wing advanced to the north as
far as Telsze and Trischki. West
of Schaulen the right wing fought
its way across the Vindavski Canal
between the Venta and Dubissa
rivers. Cavalry advanced north en-
circling Schaulen, to the south of
which the Russians brought up re-
inforcements.
Russian attacks near Kalvaria failed with
severe losses.
Carpathians
After active artillery preparations. the Rus-
sians during the early hours of the night began
a violent drive against the Austro-Hungarian
troops blocking the mouth of the Opor Valley
south of Tuchla; but the attack ended in fail-
me.
The entire net proceeds go to the needy
children of German soldiers in the field.
