Lays Steed of Soul a There yo Ge O penitent Patience and prodigal Desire Come ere to me again, , To spur with fervent fire My errant Will. Then drop amain, O Heaven, your harness And add as part of it “ome mythologic hero's bit, To help displace chimeras of the soul that may arise, With Procrastination's pasty-face Their evil guise. If on my Path there be Infernal forests of Fear And gloomy glades of Greed, That fill the spirit with a Self-Loathing misery; And great abysmal lakes of Loneliness to clear, Let not then, termite Doubt Upon Determination feed, Instead, unto me teach, O Solitude, All that you sagely sing -Within those silver Silences where Wisdom is a-wing, Above Emotionalism’s raptorial reach. And let outride The deluge of Distraction's violences, My talents twain, the pen and brush; So that with Effort at the rein They can reach, in Tenacity'’s onrush, The pinnacle Perfection atop the magic mountain. And safely there, they'll sow from out the mind To feedthose hungry hearts that follow on behind, The seeds of Truth and Beauty Watered by The soul's infinite fountain. September 25, 1946 (/ V
