Nominations for Secretary being next in order, Bro. Crossin
of District 12 nominated E. F. O’Riordan of District 19 for
Secretary. Bro. O’Mara of District 2 seconded the nomination.
It was moved and seconded that nominations close. Carried.
On motion the Secretary was instructed to cast the unanimous
ballot of the Convention for Bro. O’Riordan for Secretary of the
Convention. ‘The ballot was cast and Bro. O’ Riordan declared
duly elected.
James Reidy of D 410, District 4, was nominated for Assist-
ant Secretary. Moved and seconded that the nominations
close and that the Secretary cast the ballot of the Convention
for Bro. Reidy for Assistant Secretary. Carried. Ballot cast
accordingly.
The Chairman of the Executive then read a communication
from the District Officer of District 30 to the D. A. in reference
to the election of Rev. Peter C. Yorke as representative of that
District to the Convention, asking that he be admitted as a
delegate. The Chairman stated that the Executive had declined
to act, believing that only the Convention could waive the con-
stitutional requirements as to delegates and asked the Conven-
tion to determine the matter.
Brother Flahavan of District 5 opposed a motion made by a
brother on the floor to seat Brother Yorke.
Moved as an amendment that we adhere to the Constitu-
tion strictly and not admit Brother Yorke as a delegate.
Moved as a substitute that Brother Yorke be not admitted
as a delegate, but that he be given the privilege of the floor to
address the Convention on Tuesday, June 24, if he so desired.
After a lengthy debate participated in by several delegates,
among whom O’Mara of District 2 favored the admission and
Donohue and Colonel Burke of District 19, No. 8 of 146, Dist.
6, and McMahon of District 12 opposed the adiission of Bro-
Yorke the question was put on the substitute and it was carried.
Moved and seconded that when Brother Yorke attends, the
Convention shall resolve itself into committee of the whole
and no business be done during his presence at the Convention.
Carried.
Moved and seconded that the officers of the Convention
notify Fr. Yorke of the action taken. by the Convention:
