Antrim in September 1914 from the Antrim Volunteers and allocated to the Ulster (later 36th) Diviision. Covered here is the period of the Division's first eight months in France up to their historic advance on the Somme at Thiepval on 1st July 1916. Includes lists of members who were killed or wounded. Arthur Purefoy Irwin Samuels, killed on the 24th September 1916, had kept a journal which was the basis for this book. Inscribed on front endpaper: "T. H. Wilson / 11th Royal Irish Rifles / Brooklyn / Lisburn." Lieut T. H. Wilson of B Company is listed in the "Embarkation List of Officers": where he has added his initials "T.H." in pencil on p. 88. The photographs have been lightly annotated in pencil noting those who were killed. Bound in original green cloth, lettered in gilt, with some gilt partially flaked off.
