Between the Vietula, the Vieprz
and the Bug
The left wing of v. Mar.-.kensen’s
armies, commanded by Archduke
Josef Ferdinand, stormed the Rus-
sian positions south of Lubartov,
west of the Vieprz ;' the center, those‘
east of the river; further eastward
the sally from the lake district was
forced; the right wing advanced
north, northeast and east of Savin.

The Italian airship “Cita di Jesi”
was shot down while making a
futile attempt to shell the port

Turkey: Gallipoli Peninsula-Dardanelln
The British violently attacked in the southern
sector of Gallipoli in order to cover the land-
ing of large forces at Suvla Bay (Bay of

Anafarta). Simultaneously the Turkish hill
position northeast of Kaba-Tepe was attack-
ed from the British lines at Kanzak-Ari-
Burun. The debarkation of troops began
in the evening.
On August 7,
Norwegian Coast
a German submarine torpedoed and sank the
British auxiliary cruiser "India" (displace-
ment 7 900 tons) at the entrance of the
Vest Hard. north of Bodoe. A portion of
the crew was saved and interned in Norway.
Northern Poland
The Germans occupied Vyszkov and Serozk
on the right bank of the Bug. Fort Zegru.
on the eastern front of Novo Georgievsk. fell.
Warsaw-Iuangorod
German troops reached the eastern bank of
the Vistula on both sides of Praga. Pressed
by v. Woyrsch's army the Russians retreated
northwest of Ivangorod.
Between the Vietula, the Viepiz
and the Bug
Russian assaults on the attacking forces of
Archduke Joseph Ferdinand’: army at
Michov proved futile. To the east thereof.
the Russian center-position and. Lubartov
were occupied and the enemy ‘driven across
the Viepiz in disorder. Austrian troops at-
tacked the retreating enemy's flank at Michov
and forced them to the northwest across the
Vieprz.
Turkey: Callipoli Peninsula-Dardanellee
The British forces, landed in the vicinity of
Sulva Bay. amounted to about 75 000 men.
The quickly reinforced Turks checked the
