‘*" cried all-the charming Barrie kid-
"flies guarded by Peter Pan in’ their un-
derground home of fancy. Indeed the
immortal tutelary spirit of Kensington
Gardens seems to have been one of the
few creatures that ever escaped this uni-
versal distinction.
. Howard Shelley, well known’ to most »
Philadelphians through his association
with operatic publicity—not being Peter
Pan—is, however, no exception to this
general rule. “I-was brought up on an-
cestors,” he asserts. -In corroboration
of this fact, and fully alive to the fas-
cination of the popular American game
of calling upon the vasty deep to pro-
duce forebears, suitable to social pres-
tige, Mr. Shelley has written a satirical
comedy on the rich theme of genealogy.
‘As the author has intimated, he knows
whereof he speaks, for his ancestors and
kinsfolk loom large in American history.
for many a day he has been all too lib-
erally “fed up” on this subject—fi rst
“because he is a Shelley, second because
he Js a Philadelphian, where ancestor
worship is not disassociated from an
odor of sanctity,“ Hence the writer has
at last had recourse to a safety-valve,
taking the form of the three-act play of
“The Family Tree,’ which our theatre-
goers are invited to witness for the -first
time on any stage to-morrow night.
