Root fpring up many knotty four fquare rough
little Stalks, about a foot high, divided immedi-
ately from the Root into many Branches, having
but one iide Branch growing forth at one Joint:
about which Joints grow and i read abroad tour or

Leaves, fomewhat tough. The tops of the Stalks
and Branches are nothing butlong,fmall, fourfquare
fpikes or cars, made of three Leaved green husks;
Out of theTop'of each husk grows a very fmall
greenilh yellow Flower, havrng four exceeding
linall Leaves, fcarcely to he feen: after which
follows in each husk,one fmall blackiih Seed,fome-
thing long, round on the one lide, with a dent

IV. The feeond, or fmall Creeping Madder
with put lifh blew Flowers. [tr Roar i: fnzall and
of 'a re difh yellow color, ahiding all the Winter
with green Leaver thereon, and will enereafe
plentifully from the seed i! jhed: every Tear.
This fmall Plant cree 5 upon the Ground, with
many fmall, fquare, moorh Branches, much di-
vided or fpread out into other fmaller ones, full
Joints, and at every of them,'five or lix final],
round, and very frelh green Leaves, fmoorh alfo,
or but very little tough. Fromthefe Joints, and
rouridles of. Leaves, as well 'asfrom, the Tops of
the, Branches, come feveral fmall Flowers, made
of live, blewilh purple round pointed Leaves,
with fome fmall Threads in the middle. The
Seed is fmall and. long pointed, two for the,
molt part [landing together. -' ‘
V. The third, or fmall’ Rock Madder. It: Roar

This fmallell Madder grows not much above an'
hand breath high, with a fquare Stalk, fpteading
fmall Branches from the Iornts; a: which, grow
feven or eightfmall long pointed Leaves; even the

being fomwhar rough alfo. The Flowers are fmall,
and of a pale red or blufh color, (landing in Tufts
or-Umbles at the To 5 of the Branches. ,

fec0nd grows plentifully in many places of Eng-
land: The third grow alfo in ,many places of
our Bfitjlh Continent; as upon rife Chalky Hills
