IV. The Defctiptions. The Jfrji, or Common
Lettice, which does not Cabbage. 1! Im- (1 Ron!

rim. lt rifes up with feveral Leaves, full of a
milky Juice, of a light green Color, ooth, and
little or nothing dented on the edges, broad, and
fomewhat long withal, and ending in a (harp Point,
almoil: round in form of them. From among the
middle of thefe Leaves comes forth a round Stalk,
(in fome greater, in others lelier, according to the
Rind, and alfo the Goodnei‘s of the Ground) full
of Leaves, like unto the lower, but much lefs, nat-
rower alib, and iharper pointed. This Stalkto-
wards the top, branches it felf forth into feveral
parts, on which grow Iei'eral fmall Star-like How-
ers, of a pale yellowiih Color, after which comes
Seed, either whitiih or blackiih, according as the
Plant yields, at which hangs fome fmall matter of
a Cottony Down, with which the whole Head is
lloted, and which is carried away with the Wind,
if not gathered in time.
