Germander, an a fmall Roorbfull if white String:

fquare, hai ,Brancher, which take Root in feveral
placer, a: t ey lye, and fpread ; by which mean: it
much enereafer. Upon thele Stalks or Branches
grow many V65, two always at a Joint, which
are fomething larger and longer than the Leaves of
Garden Germander, of a lad or dark green color,
whereon there is yet a Hiew'of Hoarinefs, fomewhat
foft in handling, Full of Veins, and dented about
the edges, of a Scent lomewhat Itrong, and refemb-
ling arlick, whence came the Greek and Latin
Name The Flowers are (inall, red andga ing, or
of a le color, like the Flowers of dead gk’ettler,
and film at the Joints with the Lmves, towards the

Creeping deep into the Ground, antifor about, abiding

kW”: nearer the Ground. Upon thefe Stalks or
“inches grow Leaves, two at a Joint, broader and
rounder than the former Scordium, and all of a hoa-

Harehaond or Water Mint, and almoll as large as
thofe of Baton. From the middle of the Stalks u p‘
wards, towards their tops, come forth the Flowers,
llanding as it were in a long fpiky Head, with
Leaves at the bottoms of Husks or lhortFoot-fialks.
Thefe Flowers are of a pale purplifh color, almoll
white, like unto Harehound, gaping, and very like
to thofe ofdead Keillor; which being pail‘ed away,
there follows fmall, round, black Seed. The whole
Plant fmells of Garlich as much as the former, or
True Scordium -, and thereby it is known to be of
the kind, tho’ the Leaves, by being larger, do fome‘
what differ.
V. '17:: Placer. The hill grows in many wet
Grounds, and by Waterlides in many places of
England. Din (wide: l'ays, hat it grows as well
on Hills as by Vater‘fides; and it will liourifh well,
if it is tranfplanted into a Garden : Carnernriw fays,
That it is found to be lironger and lharper which
grows on high Grounds, than that which grows on
low and moilt laces. It grows near to Oxenfw-J, ‘
by Rule], on th tides of the Water, and in a
Meadow by Ahington, mlled Neitford : alfo in
great plenty in the [lie of Ely, and in a Meadow by
Harwood in Lancajhire, and in feveral other places.
The other grows alfo in low and [mill laces, but
is not to generally to be found as the rlt is 2 in
Gzndia the People gather it promifcuoully with the
Exit fort. ’
. . VI.'.The '17nzer. They flower in fame, in!) and
Augah‘, in which Months it is bell to gather 1t and
keep it dry : it perifhes not in Winter, but only
loofes the Stalks, the Root fending'up froth again
in Summer. .
VII. The Qualitier. Germander is hot and dry in
the fecond Degree: it is Aperitive, Ablierfive, A-
lhingent Cat-initiative, Digeliive, Diuretick, Ano-
dyne and Traumatick; Cephalick, Neurotick, 57:04
marick, Cordial, ‘Hepatick, Nephritick, Sudorihck
and Alexiphatmick. ,
VIII. The Sperijication. It is a counter Poifon a-
ainll all Poifons and InfeEtions of Contagious and
Epidemick Difeafes, as Stingings or Bitings of Ser-
pents, mad Dogs, We. all forts of malign Fevers,
the Marilee, Small-Pox, Purples, Spotted fever
and Cale-mute, as alfo the‘ Plague or Peliilence it
felf: it is an efpecial Hel againll the Strangury,
and revokes the Terms in omen.-

-X.,The liquid juice. It is a little fharpand pe-
netrating, and ('0 is eli‘eEiual to provoke (June, and
give-cafe in the Strangury. It opens lelrut‘ltons
of the Womb, and provokes the Terms in Women,
facilitates the Birth, and brings away the After-birth.
It is goerl againit the Bitings or Stingin of Vipers,
Rattle Snakes, and ether Serpents, mad ogs, Scor-
ions, Hornets, 6:. and refil’ts all other deadly Poi-
ons. Dofe two, three or four Spoonfuls in the di-
llilled Water of the fame, or in any orher fit or proe
erVehicle, Morning and Night, ro‘be continued
