Ill. The Defcriptions. The firjl, or Common
Tree Getmander, ha: 4 Root which i: jomughat
woody, f reading it felf about, with many Strtngt
and hlactijh Fibre: adjoining to them. Front this
Root jfring up hard, woody, brittle Stalkt, (growing
much like a little Shrub ) a Foot or two, and fame-
time: 11 Yard high, where Care is taken of it, and It
i: fryer-(ted and defended from the In urie: of the
ll’intrt‘:. Thefe Stalks branch themfe ves forth on,
all Iides, from the very bottom, bearing always
Leaves by couples, fmaller, fmoother and thicker
than thofe of Gemander, .of a dark (hining green
color on the upper fide, and gteyifh undernw ,
and dented alfo about the edges, like them. The
flowers which are gaping, iland about the tops of
the Branches, Spike-falhion, one above another, of
a pale whitifh color, as Clttfiat (lays, but of 3 ur-
ple, as Lobe] l‘ays, of both which colors it has een
oft feen beating , but the Flowers are fomewhat
larger than thofe of Germander, and vrdthout any
Hood above, having a few Threads [landing forth.
The Seed is fmall, blackifh and round, contained in
fmall round, but pointed Husks. The whole Plant
is of a fine, pleafanr, but weak Smell, yet fotneWhat
Itronger, if it is a little bruifed, holding the Stalks
and green Leaves continually, if it is not expofed
to the Sharpnefs of the Winter Seafon. I “
