and hard, like unto a little Mimi), which is after-
wards divided into very rmny little fmall Branches.
Upon thefe Stalks and Branches grow fmall Leaves,
almoil: round, and a little indented about the edges,
lefler than the Lewes of the tbllowing Grout Ger-
”lander. The Flowers grow at the tops, and alfo
ntnr the Leaves on the upper parts of the Sprigs,
of :l deeper purple color than the following, and or;
tentirnes tending to Blewnefs.
V. An Olferwtiori. This Herb was in former
times much ufed, and is yet ltill ufed in feveral
Places, to hedge up, or border Beds in Gardens, be-
caufe it will grow thick, and may be alfo kept in
fome Form and Proportion with cutting, and that
the Cuttings are much ufed as a firewing Herb for
Houfes, Flores and Chin'utey-hcurths, being pretty,
and fweet withal; for which Reafon it is much af-
feEted : but this is to be taken notice of, That it
will often die, and grow out ofForm; 21nd befides
that, the Stalks will grow too great and hard, and
ltubby , and the Roots, by rat ihooting under
Ground, will, upon a little continuance thereof;
(brad into many places within the Knot, which, if
they be ,not continually pluckt up, will fpoil the
whole Knot it felf; and therefore once in three or
four Ymrs at moll, it mull be taken up and new
Set, or elfe it will grow too rank and cumbetfom.
VI. Tbefetond, or Greater Getmander, bar 4 Root
which i: more buflzy with Fibra, and creep: ltfs than
tbeformer .- from this Root rift: up greater and
border fguore Stalks, twelve, jifttert or Eighteen
Irrcbtr bigb, fpreodirtg imo frwrol Bronchia- from
tbs very bottom 3 on which grow two Leaves at a
Joint, fpmewhat lat er than thofe of the Ordinary
or Gammon kind j before defcribed, and more
dented about the edges, green above, and fomewhat
greyiih underneath. The Flowers [land in a long
fpiky Head, and are larger than the former, gaping
like them, and of a paler purple color.
VII. The P111563. They are both found growing
Wild in Germain, and in manyother Countries, as
Clujm faith ', but with us, they are only found in
Gardens. -
VIII. '17:: Tina. They flower in from or fill)’,
and the Seed is repened in fame little time after.
IX. T79: Qualitior. Germontltr is hot and dry in
the third Degree, and more [harp and bitter than
Trucriam, as Dio coridor ihys : it is highly ‘Aperi-
tive, Incilive, Ab etiive, Alhingent, Cephalick, Neu-
rotick, Stomatick, Pastoral, Hepatick, Splenetick,
Arthritick, Alexi harmick and Anale tick.
X. The Sptoilirotion. Ir cures a1 forts of Agnes
and Fevers, and is rincipal againll: the Plague or
Pellilence : it is go againit Diikafes of the Lungs;
[lops ‘alljorts of Fluxes of the Bowels, and is a
certain‘Remedy for the Gout.
