I. H E Nanter. , It is alled in Greek, rat-mi;-

II. 'Ihe Kindr. So far as we know, it is' a tin-
gular Plant of the kind; tho’ Authors repart, that
there are other forts of in fome of which bar yel-
low Flowers, and others which bear red 5 but of
thofe we an fay nothing in this place.
111. 'An Objervation. Some have called this
Plant Paneratiunt flare Lilii , but this was :1 Mi;
ttake. Others thought it to be" a kind of Seylla,
and ufed it inttead of Sguillr in Therioea, but this
was :1- dangerous Error. Others, as (lunar faith,
call’d it Hemeroeallir, thinking it to be a Lilly; and
Cluftut does thereupon call it Herneroeallt‘s Valenti-
na, - but was wholly in the wrong: for it is neither
Paneratt‘unt,‘ no: 39%, nor Lillt’tmt ; but it is cer.

Paneratt'urn to be a kind of 3911111; and 123 it was
called in his time, viz. Seylla radire rubra, which

both with the fame Preparation and Quantity, and
for the time Difeafes that Sg'lla was ufed for, only
that it was faid to be weaker. But beware ot'uting
of this Sea Ballard Da adil by fuch a Mittake, be-
canfe of its dangerous 5635, which are faid to be
deadly : for it is reported, that one, out of Malice,
did before hand cut the Root of this Plant with the
Knife which another was prefently after to cut his
Meat withal, and that with an Intention to kill
him by the Potion thereof, with which the Knife
was poifoned. .
’V. The Defcription. It hat a large white bul-
bau: Root, front which fpringfeveral broad whitijh
green Leaver, but not very long, among which rye:

: VI. The Placer! :It grows near the Sea fde in
Italy, Spain and Franre, .within the Straightr, and
for the molt part updii‘all the Levant Shore, and
ltlauds of the Mediterranean, but does not often
liower in our colder Climates, but it profpers, and
