XIV. The liquid juice. Being given horn four
to fix ounces two hours before the coming of the
Pit ofan Ague (as alfo given in the time quanity ,
Morning and Evening for fome days) it removes
the Pit, and perfect] cures the Ague. It evacuates
and carries off Cho erick and Grofs Humors, and
prevails againft the Sciatica : And yet wirh1)odo-
”.em, I do not perceive that it has any fenlible Pur-
ging, o'r Carthartick quality, though in the mean
time, many things which are not purely Catharticks
or Purging, are found to be very cleanfing, and in
pafling ott‘ themfelves, carry many other Humors
along with them.
XV. '17): Emma. This has all the Virtues of the
Juice; it opens Obfh'uElions of the Gall, Liver,
Spleen, Reins and Womb, (prevails againlt Hypo-
chonilriack Melancholly, an the Yellow Jaundice;
it eai‘es Pains in the Sides, and hardnei's of the
Spleen, making thin both Blood and Humors. It
is of good ufe for thofe that have the Dropiie, or
Green-ficknefs, becaufe it Ib‘engthens the Stomach,
and all the other l’ifrmz: Iknow fome will not al-
low it to cure the Droplie -, but this I know, that
ifthe Hydropick Humors are oarried of? by other
means,‘ and the parts afi'eEled are once emptied of
their Water, that if this EITence be duly given, it
f0 lirengthens the Bowels, that that Difeafe returns
no more. It kills Worms in the Belly, and drys
up Rhe'ums.‘ g " ,
XVI. ’17); Infufon in Wine. It cleanfes grofs Hu-
mors, and eafes pains in the Hips, the Gout, and
other like Difeafes proceeding from Tartarous Hu-
mors: It is good. in Agues, firengthens the Stomach,
helps Digeliion, and caufes a good-Appetite. It alfo
prevails againlt Stitches, ains of the Sides, and
other difatteetions‘ of the Jean. ' ' ‘ ,
XVII. Tb: Daemon. It has the Virtues of the
Infufion,‘ is good againll Agues, Catarrhs, and the
vehement pains of the Colick : It provokes the
Terms in W oinen ;’ and brings away the Birth, whe-
-ther dead or alive, as alfo the After-birth, eaiing
the pains of Mother, and caufmg an eEe&ual Clean-
fing after Delivery. It is good againlt the Rickets
in Children, evacuates Tartar out of the Urinary
Pailhges,‘ and-brings away Sand and Gravel, [top-
ping the paII'age of the Urine.
VIII., The Fourier. Taken to one dram in Wine,
, it gives cafe in the Colick, kills Worms in Chil-
dren, and (as Parkirrnm fays ) is a wonderful good
help againlt the biting and poifonof a Viper or
Adder. Strewed upon moilt and running Sores and
Ulcers it cleanfes, drys, and heals them.
XIX. The on by imam or Bailing. i: is Ano-
dyn, mfes the Spleen, and pains‘of the Mother, and
is very efl'eflual in all old pains of the Joints, and
Limbs, as Gouts, Sciatica, Convuliions, Cramps, Ur.
proceeding from a Cold Caufe. ‘ It is alfo a very
goodjthing to anoint Womens Breads which are
fwoln, v hard, ,or pained, through Cold, or Curd‘
ling of the Milk,'or any other accrdent, as of a
blow, a. ‘ 1; ..
xx. The Ointment. It has the Virtuesof the
Oil. but is more Itrengtheuing and' fanative : It
Cleanfrs; ’drys,,.and heals foul Ulcers, and other
fpreading Scabs of .' the Hand -, and to anoint the
Back-bone 1 and Joints of fuch Children as have got-
ten the Rickets : It ftrengthens and gives cafe in
Pains of the Back, by anointing therewith.

nerary, and cures fimple Green Wounds at‘the Edi

dates their lips. It heals old running Sores, clearrh
frng, incamating and drying, and perfetllv curing
them, tho’ Hollow, or F iltulous. '
XXII. Tb: Camplrlfm, made of the green Herb.
It has the Virtues or‘rhe Baliiim, but is an eibecial
thing for cleiniing and healing urrid Lllcets in
what part foever, if duly a pli thrice a dJV'.

XXIII. Tb: Dijlillecl Water. It has the Virtues
of the Infufion or Decoe‘tion, but is pleaiiinter, as
being lefs bitter ; but by fo much, it is the leis ef-
ticacious : and is many times ufed as a Veliiculum,
to convey other Preparations ot’tlie Herb in :' It is
faid to take away Tanning ofthe Skin, Sun-burn-
ing, and other the like difaiieftions. ‘
W. Th;- Spirituolt: Tinfiure. It comforts all
the Vifcmr after a Iingular manner , and therefore
if it is taken from one dram to four drams, Morn-
ing, Noon, and Night, it 12) lirengthens the Bowels,
as that it prevents the return ofa Droplie in thole'
Perfons w ere it has been lately cured. It alfo re-
moves the Gout out of the Stomach, which many
times is fatal) is good a ainIt the Saundice, and
Hypochonclriack Melanchol‘iy : It is indeed a good
remedy agaiuit the bitings of Vipers, Rattle-Snakes,
and other Serpents, as alfo the Poifon of Mad
ogs. .
XXV. The Acid Tinffart. It is excellent againit
Vapors, Fits of the Mother, and other dilalfe‘clions
of the Womb Iritrengthens a weak Stomach, relilis
Vomiting, caufes a good Appetite and Digel’tion,
removing faintnefs and ficknels at heart. It is good
againfl Poifon, and the Plague, as alfo all Puttid,
Malign, and Pellilential Difeifes, being taken in all
that the lick drinks from twenty to forty drops at
a time, at lealt five or fix times a day; it takes
away the malignity of the Diliemper, and wonder-
fully abatcs the putrid heat of the Fever, Whether
Continent, Continual‘or Contermirting.
' XXVI. The Oily Tintiurc. It airries oil" the yel-
low Iaundice, as alfo the Morbiiick caufe of 0b;
ItruEtions of the Reins and Urerers by Urine: being
given from one dram to two drams, in a good
draught of Cardrmr PoIIetL‘drink, it has been known
to cure Agues: more efp'ecially it the Spine Darfi
be effeelually anointed therewith, from the Vene-
[mz of the Neck almolt to the Arm. Anointed on
the hdes, it eafes their Pains : and given iniraidly,
gives cafe in the Colick. Given to a Woman in
Labor frOm tifteen to thirty or forty drops, in fome
Convenient Vehicle, it facilitates the Delivery, wire;
the! alive or dead, and elfeaually brings away the
After-birth. , ,
XXVII. '17): Saline Timur“ It is good againil
foul Ulcers, and fpreading Scabs or the Head, or
other parts -, takes away Cutaneous Deformities, as
Tannings, Sun-burnings, SPQKS: Marks, 59“”: D394-
riE, Morphew, and other IlkC-dCICEIS or the skin:
And being long applied, it is [aid to remove Freckles,
tho'. of great continuance.
XXVIII. The Spirit. It (hengthens the Stomach
wonderfully, chears the Heart, revives the Spirits,
and fortifies the Univerfal Oeconomy of Nature:
it is good againli Vomiting, and Indigelliou, and
taufes a good Appetite to food , makes a frelh and
lively Countenance, and reilores the Prifline flare
ofthe Bowels. It is a very good thing againit
Diarrhea, Dyfcmc’ria‘r, Limteria’:, and the Hepa-
rick Him, and gives eaie in an CX‘ulIlte Colick,
when 1b.netimes many other things wt do nothing;
