The Virtues.
XI. The Di tilled W'ater of the whole Plant. It is
good ogainit turf, Morphew, Leprol'ie, Manginefs,
‘pots, Freckles, Tanning, Sun-burning,65'c. the Face
and Skin being often walhed therewith.
XII. The juice of the Berrier. It has all the
fitme Virtues, but is much itronger, and is faid to
be a peculiar thing for the cure of Tettats and Ring.
worms, Herpes, Serbs, Itch, and other brakings
out.
XIII. The juice cf the Root. It is thus Made or lit
ExtraEled. In April take away the Earth, and un-
cover the Root; which done, make a deep but nar-
row overthwart cut or gnjh into it ; and put in a
Goof: Quill a little under the Slit, letting the Quill
lye floping or leaning downwards“, when thruji into

gilt” the Quill -, then placing a Receiver under the

way alfo it purges the Held and Brain admirably,
evacuating all fuch Summons Humors, which
mufe Lethargies, Mcgrims, Head-sch, or any of the
aforenamed Difeafes ailiiEling thofe parts.
XIV. The E enteglt has all the Virtues of the
aforementione Juice, and may be given from half
an ounce to an ounce, more or lefs, according to the
age and ihength of the Patient. It is a peculiar
thing againli the Droplie, Kings-Evil, Rheumatifms,
and Gout -, but it purges with great Violence, trou-
bling the Stomach, [0 that it works both upwards
and downwards, and therefore nccordin to the
Opinion of Authors, it ought to be con ed with
Ginger, Cinmmomleinters Gammon, Nutmegs,
Cloves, Pepper, Juice of . Quinces, Ur.‘ It is very
profitable againit Watry Humors, which it evacu-
ates abundantly, both by Vomit and 8:00 and
therefore is a peculiar thing againll: the Drop refit.
It may be mixed with 1 hit: Port Wine, and fo
drank. It opens Qbiiruikions of the Urin parts,
provokes Urine, and cleanfes the Reins and reters
rom Sand, Gravel, Slime, and other Vifcous and
Tamrous Matters apt to be lodged in tholi: parts.
It opens 0bliru&ions of the Spleen, and takes a-
way the hardnefs and fwelling thereof it is good
gbeing outwardly applied) to cleanfe the Skin of
curf, Morphew, Leprolie, Subs, Itch, Manginefs,
Her es, Terms, Ring-worms, Freckles, Lentils,
bloc and blew Spots, which come from falls, brui-
fes, and the like, and dill'olves- new Swellings, and
ex 115 me dead Child.
V. "The DeeoZYionof the Root in Wine. It has
all the Virtues of the theme, but not full out fa
powerful, and therefore ought to be given in 3 hr-

XVII. "The Ponder of the Root. It has the Virtues
of the Juice and EIIEnce, but is thought to work
onger : being taken in White Port Wine, from a
a fcruple to a dram,'it is good againfl the bitings
of Venomous Crertures, and kills Worms in Chil-
dren , prevails againli the Gout, Rheumatifm, Drop‘
lie, and King’s-Evil, and provokes the Terms in
Women, but it ought not to be given to Women
with Child, beanie it may induce mifmrringe 0‘
Abortion. If it is thus compounded, it becomes 8
