I hear that the Prince of Wales has commissioned John
Porter, of Kingsclete, his trainer, to purchase, as loecasron
offers, a few choicely-bred mares. for the breeding stud
which H.It.H. has resolved to establish at Sandringham.
Mr. Charles Wyndham is almost as fortunate as
Kendal He has just received a splendid loving-cup, in-

The Queen comes to town on Wednesday, March 2, for
two nights, and on Thursday, the 17th, for two nights.
The Queen has settled that the Dowager Duchess of mix-
burghe is to be in waiung during the week of the Jubilee
celebration.
I learn that the Queen has offered the vacant apartments
at Hampton Court Palace to the Dowager Lady Iddesleigh,
who, however, has not accepted them.
The Don r Duchess of Athole has abandoned her
intention or ' g her oihce as Lady-in-Waiting, atpthe
special request of the Queen, wi w o‘ er Grace is a
great favourite, and she is one of her Majesty’: oldest and
most trusted friends.
The Queen is to leave Windsor Castle on the morning of
Monday. April 4, for Aix-les-llailns, proceeding by way of
Chcrbourg, and her Majesty will return to England on
Friday, April 29.
According to present arrangements, the Queen will
remain at Aix for sixteen days, after which she isto go to
Dorms-tadt for six days, and from tlierepshe will come
direct home by Flushing and Port Victoria. The Queen
has engaged the Villa lllottct, at Aix, where she stayed in

The German Crown Prince and Crown Princess are to

Prince Henry of Prussia to Princess Irene of Hesse will

between the Grand Duke of Hesse and the clnefs of the
Iiohenzollern family, none of. whom has visited Darmstad
since the Kalomine uclandre in April, 1884.
Prince Henry is coming to England for a short time next

One of the special features of the J ubilce Exhibition at
Manchester is to be a collection of the best portraits of all
the Prime Mjnisteiswho have held otlice dunng the queen's

THE FIFTY-SECOND WATERLOO.
The competitors for the fifty-second Waterloo Cup are
below mediocrity as regards class. The returned nominations
have been in excess of any p1‘eV'iUuS)'K‘ll.l‘, and the cause
may be traced to the moderate lot of puppics this season
has brought forth, and the dearth of urailiible all-aged
dogs of good quality. A rumour to the cifcct that Mini
Gleiidync-last 'ear‘a winner-had injured herself in :1
trial, led to the elief that she would not be in a condition
to run; ut the betting market at the commencement of
the week justified the conclusion that she would be included
in
ry.
The annual meeting of the National Coursing Club was
held at the Adelplii llotel, Liverpool, on Tuesday after-
noon, and the Waterloo banquet in thmevcning, niter
which the draw was proceeded with. On Wednesda 'tlic
meet was postponed, through the frost. Mr. J. Hed ey is
judge for the f0Ul'l.(‘entli season in succession, and Wilkin-
son slips for the ninth consecutive year.

have decided that the February Steeplechase is n
