had their top-masts struck and everything cleared
ready for action. They were on the look-out for
the invading fleet of Admiral Frcniantle.
.. FALMOUTH TAKEN.
The attacking squadron, consisting of the
Agincourt, Black Prince, Iron Duke, and two
turret-ships, arrived in Falmouth Buy, close to
the month of Falmouth Harbour, at daylight on
Tuesday morning, and remained at aiiclior 1' or
several hours. About half-past one in the after-
noon they again got under Weigh, and steamed
slowly out, keeping the Lizard to the west. The
turret-ships went to sea for some distance. At
three o‘clock one of them returned to within a
few miles of the other men-of-war, when some
signalling from the Agineourt took place. The
war-sliips then prepuredi for action, with .the
result that the following telegram was dispatched
by Admiral Freniantle to the Admiralty :- -
“Fuhiiouth taken; forts destroyed; eighteen
large lDCl'('llnnl1-VCSSCIS, coal stores, and numerous
small craft burned.” .

, ‘ WATER-POLO.
Wu would strongly recommend none but pmdcicnt swim-
mers to engage in the new sport of Winter-Polo, illustrated in
our present Number. If the players be good divers and
swimmers, snysmount of cxhilnruting fun may be obtained
in a game of water-polo. As at llurlinghsrn, on dry land,
polo-players gnin plenty of amusement by indulging in
what is pructioally lI0(:liey on horseback; so at water-
polo the players, seated in canoes, use their puddles to hit
the buoyunt footbnll which provides the sport. Adept:
at ,‘,‘duck-hunting,” as well as skilful canoeists, are the
likeliest to shine at water-polo.
