" The Declaration of tePrincipled adopted unanimously by the
Budnlo meeting on Eae ay in as follosz:
We, t a Trish Nationalists, oi Buh‘alc,N .Y., in memon rial
meeting assembled on this second anniversary of the Irish Rebel-
lion of 1916, renew our iealty to the ideals and the rinciples so
gloriously exemplified in the gallant deeds and sacrificial deaths
at the patriots engaged in that Rebellion. 2
heir heroic efforts have re- awakened the soul of Ireland and
were crowned with every element of success, short of complete
Independence; the spirit they created has placed the achievement
of their ultimate aim within the realm of present possibilit . .
We endorse the principles of liberty, equality and justice set
forth in the Proclamation of the Irish Republic issued over the
signature of J nines Connolly and his compatriots.
Interested above all worldly things in the honor and wel-
fare of the United States, we have -during the hrst year of the
iwnr evinced 1n the most striking manner our devotion. Consti-
tuting one- -iiith oi the population, the Irish Race has during the
last year, contributed approximately one- -third of the personnel
of the Army and over one- -half of the Navy.
To on war land conhict are nothing new; no fight for America
has over missed the men of our blood, from the Revolution to
the present time, and no men at an race have shed their blood
more freely. and oven generously, Iian we. oit ha alway 3
cell, so it saw-d ay, and so will it ever be in every ccnhl'ct to
which our Government commits us.
This terrific struggle in which we are engaged has been pro-
claimed byE rtgland to be a contest for "the integrity of small
nations" and for “the liberties of. oppressed peoples."
dayEngland is cryingo obs for help' 111 these words
of her Prime Ministe ter: "We are ualt the crisis of the war, attack-
ed by an immense superiority oi German troops. ' 011
arm 11 u been forced to retire. t is ' lmoasible to
exaggerate tbh importance of getting American reinforcements
across the Atlantic in the shortest possible space of time."
Compliance with that appeal means nacrihcen by our people
in the ratio mentioned, and we declare that if England is sincere
.in her proclaimed purpoae for entering the war, she should now,
immediately, 111 all justice, show her good faith by recognizing
Ireland on a Free and independent Nation. This .would relieve
for service in Random the large and she maintains in Ireland
and would be an actual application of the principle for which she
professes to light .
0 all who have studied England's methods in 'denling with
Ireland the necessity for now urging such action is apparent. At
every critical period England has been profiles in promising ro-
liei to Ireland, ii the Irish people would but have her, only
violate these pledges when the crisis passed. The present is lit)
exception; the has betrayed those lltshmen who trusted her in
this very crisis. This is 'admitted by Mr. John Dillon, now
Chairman oi the Irish Parllamentnry Pony. Speaking at Ennis-
Iil'llen, Ireland, March 15 , 1918, Mr. Dill lion sal
Hlid eEnglish Ministers been honorable men and
ltocd by Redmond and imitated his statesmanship, Ireland
to- day, instend of being an embarrassment to England, would
