distance around the earth at the equator.
Revolutions of the screws to drive this
distance amount to 34,476,200.
117,800 tons of coal have been con-
sumed in the firerooms.
52,000 gallons of oil have been used.
85140 passengers have been carried.
Ahout 75,000 tons of cargo carried.
198 officers and 3590 enlisted men have
served .on the ship of whom there are
48 officers and 1055 enlisted men are in
the present crew. .
8663 patients have been treated by the
Medical Corps.
835 of these were cared for on one
trip for influenza.
4640 overseas patients (wounded and
injured) have been carried home.
111 deats have occurred on the ship
of which 89 occurred on one trip in the
mi-lst of the influenza epidemic. Of the
total deaths 10 were of navy men.
1,050,000 Hatchets have been printed,
The Hatchet has been published 192 of
the 642 days since it was founded.

to express once more to you my heartfelt
thanks for the hospitality the Queen, my
son and myself enjoyed on board this
splendid ship and to state again my deep
admiration for the officers and men ofthe
glorious United States Navy. Albert.
FAMOUS SHIP ENDS SERVICE

Second Division on this ship in April-
May 1919 and likewise of the even more
famous Second Division in July, 1919 are
also leading events in the life of the ship.
In the last two trips the George Wash-
ington has become of especial importance
to the people of Belgium when she flew
the Royal Standard of their King. And
certainly this last homeward bound pas-
sage is one that may not beomitted from
an account that will be read by all on
board today.
Under the command of Captain E. T.
Pollock until September 29, 1918, of Cap-
tain Ward K. Wortman for the following
month until October 28, 1918, and there-
after until the present, commanded by
Captain Edward McCauley. Jr., the fam-
ous ship has became inseparably linked
with the greatest events in American
history.
