“This book is intended to be an aid in the ex-
amination of conscience. Particular attention has
been paid to this examination on the part of re-
ligious teachers, but the suggestions offered can
be used by anyone. Soul Clinic consists of two
parts: The psychological approach to spiritual
problems, and the consideration of these problems
according to the liturgical year. The latter section

Successful use of the exercise. Thinking about
oneself, raking one’s brain for faults and failings
and the motives behind those faults and failings
might be either very interesting and therefore dis-
tracting, or else quite dull and therefore tedious
work. The best approach yet proposed seems to
be the one offered by the authors of Soul Clinic.

oneself against a standard of comparison. Part
two of the little volume presents Just such a stand-
ard in coupling our own etiorts with those of
Christ as seen in ‘the various cycles of the Liturgi-
cal year. For this reason the volume should be a
liberating and also a very helpful contribution to
the techniques of spiritual advancement”-Louis J.
