tonio, intestate, at “two o’clock
the night before” March, 1743.

II. Juan, el mozo, head of the 3rd
family; b. 1700, Lancerote; “me-
dium height, broad-shouldered,
dark complexion, long face, thick
beard, sharp nose, meeting eye-
brows, curled hair, black eye-
brows and hair, eyes almost grey,
blobber-lipped.” He was_ also
called Juan Leal Alvarez; and
-was so-called in the partition of
his father’s estate, in 1743. He re-
nounced his office of regidor per-
petuo, March 28, 1742, owing to
the deplorable situation in San
Antonio, and removed with his
family to the Presidio de Santa
Rosa, an important base of sup-
ply for the colonists (and which
later became the capital of all the
Eastern Interior Provinces), where
he stated, he could find greater
advantages; or where at least, he
might have found fewer disad-
vantages250 He m. Maria Gracia
de Acosta (Pedro Gonzales Cabe-
zas and Francisca de Acosta), b.
1700, Teneriffe; “tall, full-faced,
fair complexion, light grey eyes,
black hair and eyebrows, pointed
nose.” They had:
1 Miguel, b. 1720, Fuerteventura; “large
grey eyes, meeting eyebrows, light
chestnut hair, thin nose, scar at the end
of the left eyebrow, blobber-lipped, black
curled hair.” He m. Ist, Juana Ma-

sefa Galvan (?Juan and Francis-

Maria Fuentes). By the Ist m.:

dondo (Francisco and Ana Francisca
