Villanova was defeated in one of the
most sensational games of the season by
North Carolina this afternoon on Uni-
versity Field, the score being 3 to 2.

VILLANOVA A WINNER
Collegians Defeat Rocky Mount Team
by Hitting Pitchers Freely
ROCKY MOUNT, N. C., Apri 16—
Villanova College team played the local
league team here today and had trouple
winning by a score of 7 to 1, The home
team had not played a game this season
and was in no shape to give the speedy
collegians a contest.
The college men were strong in box
and field. Barry and Barr worked in
rare form. For Rocky Mount, Straub
and Lane pitched, and both were easy
for the Northern boys. Barr’s hitting
for Villanova and Johns’ fielding for
Rocky Mount were the features,

VILLANOVA DEFEATS STATE
Main Line Team Celebrates Home-
coming by Winning Close Game
VILLANOVA, PA., April 12.—Villa-
noya opened the home season very aus-
piciously today by defeating the State
College team in a hard fought and inter-
esting game by a score of 2 to 1. Both
teams were in the game for blood, and
some yery sensational plays were
executed.
Villanova was the first to score. In
the fourth Walsh hit safely and _ stole
second, going home on Sherry’s Jong
drive. Sherry scored immediately after-
ward on a_three-bagger by Barr. In
the sixth Workman, of State, hit for
two bases and scored on Monahan’s
error. The remainder of the game was
played in fast style and neither team
again threatened to score.
Sherry was in the box for Villanova
and pitched a fine article of ball. Skemp,
State’s great southpaw, did the twirling
for the boys from up the State, and he
had his opponents guessing for a while,
but when they hit him they made the
hits count. ;
