    The Barry-Hayes Papers are the business, political and personal papers of John Barry, Captain of the United States Navy, and of his family, especially his nephew Patrick Hayes and grand-nephew, Patrick Barry Hayes. The collection includes correspondence, letterbooks, diaries, logbooks, legal and financial papers related to Barry's career in the Navy, the business ventures of the Hayes, Keen and Somers families, and their personal lives.

    This collection contains historical information about Bethlehem Steel, Bethlehem Shipbuilding, Fore River Shipbuilders, and Charles Schwab from 1915 to 1959. Of note are several sets of employee magazines from 1915 through the end of the WWI. these magazines are rich in political propaganda in support of the War and information that documents the lifestyle of the plant workers during the early 1900s. Employee magazines include: Bethlehem Steel, Bethlehem Booster, The Fore River Log, and the Unidock (1931).

    Also included are several published histories regarding the development of the Bethlehem Steel Co., its properties and plants, along with two detailed biographies on Charles M. Schwab.

    Ephemera and advertising for Bethlehem Steel during the 1940s and 1950s, along with a few pieces of ephemera from United Dry Dock and the Morse Dry Dock, both eventually purchased by Bethlehem Steel complete the collection.

    "This series contains 3 Deck logbooks from the Philadelphia Navy Yard and a Record book from the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The record book is of note as it records approximately 1600 Women who presented themselves for service during WWI. The book records name, skills, and where they were assigned. It also make note of those refused and the reason they were refused."

    "Horace F. Richter served in the U. S. Navy in the early 1900s. Following his military service he was employed by the Philadelphia Department of Docks, Wharves and Ferries.”

    This collection consists of bound volumes containing handwritten entries recording information deemed to be essential to commercial trade on the river by the Philadelphia Maritime Exchange (PME). This includes documentation of ship arrivals and departures, ship cargoes, ship movements on the river, and required government documentation.  For more information see the catalog entry for this title in the J.
