At Tarnov, Russian troops con-
tinued to resist stubbornly. The ene-
my’s attempt to check the advance
of the Teutonic armies at the Rus-
sian third line west of the Visloka,
between the heights at Szerzyny
(north of Biecz) and the Ostra
Gora, ended in the flight of the Rus-
sians across the river. This resulted
in the piercing of the enemy's front
in Westen Galicia, and left the right
flank of the Russian army of the
Beskids, occupying Hungarian ter-
ritory between Konieczna and the
Lupkov Pass, completely unpro-
tected.
Turkey: Gallipoli Peninsula-Dardanelles
Fresh troops which were landed at Kaba-
Tepe and Ari-Burun were immediately
driven back to their boats. The losses of the
English and French were estimated at 30,000
men-being one-half of their force.
Western Front:

Hill No. 60, situated south of Ypres,
which had been contested for

Mouse-Moselle
The German attack in the forest
of Ailly drove the French troops
out of their position. More than

Eastern Front: Lithuania
Engagements took place at Mitau. Szadov
and Rossienie.-Strong Russian attacks

Southern Poland
Drives directed against the German bridge-
hcads on the Piliza ended in failure.
Western Galicia-Carpathians
General v. Mackensen’s left wing
and centre advanced to the Visloka.
The right wing commanded by
General v. Emmich advanced to
the Jasiolka, by way of Zmigrod,
and through occupation of the
Dukla closed the Carpathian road
leading northward from Hungary.
The Russian army of the Beskids
withdrew from the Zboro-Sztropko-
Virava line, closely pursued by
General v. Boroevic, and was at-
tacked at Lupkov by cavalry under
General v. d. Marwitz.-The South-
ern Army repelled a strong Russian
attack along the Orava.
Turkey: Gallipoli Peninsula-Dardanellcs
Turkish troops successfully advanced at
Ari-Burun and Sedd-iil-Bahr.
Western Front:
Yser Canal
English attacks against Hill No. 60
failed.
Eastern Front: Courland
The southern forts of Libau were captured.
while the German fleet destroyed the coast
batteries. The Russians blew up the eastern
forts.
