Austrian forces overwhelmed two
Russian divisions in a surprise at-
tack before lvangorod. The Aus-
trians appeared suddenly and made
3,600 of the Russians prisoners. A
Hag and fifteen machine guns also
were captured.
On the lower San the Austrians permitted
the Russians to cross to the left bank at
several points. in order to be able to attack
fewer of them at a time. At Zarzecze they
captured more than a thousand Russian pris-
oners.
In the neighborhood of Przemysl and Her-
manovice the Russians received strong rein-
forcements from Lemberg. and were in action
continually. The contest raged with un-
diminished violence. The Russians made
great efforts to regain the lost heights of
Magiera. but were repulsed with great blood-
shed.
Between the Strwiaz and the Dniester the
Austro-Hungarian line advanced toward
Starasol. On the hill southeast of Stary-
Sambor. two strongly defended Russian
positions were talcen. The encounters of
the past few days resulted in the capture of
3,400 prisoners and I5 machine guns.

The Austrian monitor "Temes" struck a
Serbian mine in the Save while returning
from a successful raid. and sank. Only a.
part of the crew was saved.
The strong Serbo-Montenegrin forces that
penetrated East Bosnia, which had been
drained of troops. were driven from several
lines of trenches on both sides of the Molna-
Rogatica highway. -between Sarajevo and
Visegrad, after three days of severe fighting.
