TERRITORY GAINED BY ALLIES

Chicago, Ill.
Editor Issues and Events.
Dear Sir:
I take the liberty of sending you a map which I
thought would interest you. This map gives a quick
idea of the allies’ advance from July 1 to October 1,
approximately, or the territory gained compared with
the area of Chicago.
The map of France used for my drawing is published
by Ravensteins Verlag, Frankfurt a]M, Ger., and
known as most reliable for general purposes.
I should be pleased to see it published in your paper
and remain, '
Respectfully yours,
ERNST DANECKER.

Germany and Norway, the climax of which, lt.lS feared
in some quarters in Germany, may be a diplomatic
break between the two countries. At the same time
there are symptoms of a gradual tendency on the part
of Sweden toward the entente allies, symptoms which
in pro-ally circles here are interpreted as foreshadow-
ing substantial agreements and possibly an alliance.

Berlin is watching with marked attention the efforts
now beingiconducted by the entente powers to enlist
the Scandinavian countries on their side and bring
about their active co-operation in the war. '
