Eclipses in the Year 1856.
There Will be two Eclipses of the Sun, and two
of the Moon, this year; the latter visible.
I. A total Eclipse of the Sun, April 5th; invisi-
e.
II. A partial Eclipse of the Moon, April 20th;
visible early in the morning. Magnitude, 8.544
digits on the northern limb. See the Table be-
ow.
Il. An annular Eclipse of the Sun, Sept. 28th ;
invisible.
IV. A partial Eclipse of the Moon, October
13th, in the evening; visible. Magnitude, 11.976
digits on the southern limb, See the Table be-
low. The beginning of the last Eclipse will not
be visible in the United States, and the Moon
will rise with the Eclipse upon it, at about 5
o’clock 15 m., being eclipsed about 814 digits at
that time.

Notr.—This table is
arranged in order of longitude, and those places whose difference of lon-
gitude does not exceed one minute of time, are united. The end of the Ectipse of April 20th will
occur, in most of the States, after the Moon sets, which will be about 5 o’clock 16 minutes in the
morning. The Moon will set eclipsed, east of Pittsburgh and Charleston,
The planet Jupiter will be visibly eclipsed by
the Moon on the 19th of August, at one o’clock
five minutes in the morning, at Washington.
