1008.,VVhen an action in any Civil or other Court is
brought against a member of the Force in a matter arising
01lt.0f the discharge of his duty or which would affect his
P0S1tioii as a policeman, the District Inspector, or in his
absence the Head Constable, should be present and watch
t-he case and report if any circumstancestranspire which
mlgllt to be known to the Inspector-General. VVhen such
Pmceedings are taken, the member of the Force concerned
should report the facts for the information of the County
Inspector.
1009. Legal slssistzzrice at Uonstilbulury Courts of In-
'11f"‘!l-‘Wheii members of the Force, who are charged
Wlth some offence against discipline, desire to employ a
solicitor to aid them in their defence before a Court of
nfllliry, they should obtain the Inspector-General’s per-
lmssion beforehand. Such inquiries not being proceed-
lugs taken “ against them for acts done in the execution
Of their duty ” (which is the only class of cases payable out
of the vote for Law Charges), there is no fund at the
15P0sa1 of the Inspector-General, or.of the Irish Govern-
"lent: applicable to payments for such legal costs. I
1010. Attendance of Sessional Crown S0[1'(:z't0ir.4-I11
oiistabulary and Revenue cases where the decisions of
mjagistrates in petty sessions are appealedagaiiist, the
‘Strict Inspector should communicate with the Sessional
t rown Solicitor on the siibject, who will support the magis-
rateis Order. See section 1687. I
1011- In no other case shall a member of the Force apply
‘the Sessional Lrowii Solicitor for his attendance’ without
eing authorized by the Iiispector-Geiieral to do so. No
zpplicat-ion shall be made for an order for such attendance
axcellt in cases of importance, and where circumstances
ispliear to render it necessary. lVheiiever such application
W00 be made, it must be forwarded in sufficient time to
