D the 29th of Augufl 1224 ‘. Some 8 fay he died ‘before Confecration, a little
before the Clofe of the Year 1226 -, and therefore do dot reckon him among the
Qilhops of this See. But he is exprefly called Bilhop of Mt;-atb in a Charter of
his, inferred in the Regillzer of St. Mary’: Abby near Dublin ; by which he put
an End toa Suit between the Abbat of the faid Monaftery, and the Prior of
Cbrifl-Cbztrclv, on the 21ft of Ollolzer 1226. [Yet this he might have done before
Confecration. Nor was it uncommon to call a Perfon, Bifhop, after Election and
Confirmation, even without adding the Word, Elect, before he received Confe-
cration. It is certain fome ’‘of our Annals call him, Biihop, abfolutely, and
fome ionly, Bilhop ele<E‘t.] On the 26th of ?aI1uary following, King Henry the
third wrote a Letter to Primate Nettervill, commanding him to ufe all his Endea.
vours to advance Walter de Bratkell to the Sec of Meatb, [the fame who was af-
terwards promoted to the Bifhoprick of O,%ry.] But Bratlrell was put by, for I
know not what Caufe, and Ralph 1: Pen‘: foon after got the Bifhopriclc, and the
King’s Confent alfo.
